Welcome to Sojourn 2018

SOJOURN 5
Oct.4th - Oct. 7th
2018

An invitation to join the mystery?

Below is description of some of the practical elements of Sojourn, the what, when, where, and how. However, if you have your faith all figured out, if you do not desire something more, if you are convinced you can finish your race of faith strong…you need not read any further.

But, if a journey is something you’re ready for, if a mystery is something that intrigues you, if you have questions about where God is leading you next…then perhaps you need to Sojourn with us. Sojourn is an invitation to trust God and commit to a one-year spiritual journey. Where this journey will take you is unknown, but if you see it through—it might just change the entire direction of the rest of your life with Christ.

What are you committing to?

Ok, you are still with us, good!

A Sojourn commitment consists of attending two weekend retreats each a year apart. The cost of each is about $300 (total of $600). The first Sojourn weekend will be Oct. 4th thru Oct. 7th in Deer Haven Lodge, just north of the Dells in Wisconsin. The second Sojourn weekend will be a year later (October 2019) on the shoresof lake Michigan in Miller Beach, Indiana. Additionally, you will be asked to engage in certain Sojourn assignments and a few meetings during your year in between the bookend Sojourn retreats.

Your Sojourn begins...

With a 3 night, 4 day stay just outside the dells of Wisconsin.

When: Thursday night, Oct. 4th through Sunday morning, Oct. 7th.

Where: Sojourners will be staying at the  Luxurious Lodge at Deer Haven Acres in Adams Wisconsin (30 mins N. of the Dells). You can check it out at deerhavenacres.com.

What is a Sojourn?

SOJOURN: ˈsōjərn/ so·journ

             noun         1.    a temporary stay

             verb           2.    to live temporarily

While our stay in Wisconsin will be temporary, our time in Wisconsin will be a Sojourn with a purpose. It will be a time to slow down, regroup, and most of all meet with Jesus.

This is not your typical retreat full of preaching and teaching. In fact, it’s not a retreat at all. During your Sojourn you will be removed from life’s distractions and guided through an extraordinary encounter with Jesus.

For some, Sojourn is an introduction to the ancient biblical disciplines that have been neglected. For others it’s an opportunity to evaluate where God has been in their life and where he might be taking them next. Still for others it’s a reminder that God isn’t done with them yet, that they have value, that there are others who struggle with their faith just like they do. So it’s an invitation together to fight the good fight and finish the race.

Therefore, you won’t take this Sojourn alone. You’ll join 19 other men and together you will learn what it means to Sojourn with Christ.

Psalm 39:12 (NKJV)
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, And give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears; For I am a stranger with You, A sojourner, as all my fathers were.

What is the Cost?

The cost for this trip will be $290 per person. This includes your 3 night lodging, all your food, plus a few other surprises. All you need to do is get there. Each Sojourn will begin at 7pm on a Thursday night so you only have to miss work on Friday. The weekend’s events will end by 11am on Sunday and therefore you should be back home by mid Sunday afternoon.

To secure your spot a $100 down payment must be paid. The full balance will be due 30 days before your Sojourn date.

Payments should be made out to Adventure Christian Community. They can be made at either Adventure Campus, but your offering envelope must be marked “Sojourn payment” with the date you’re going. Please do not make a Sojourn payment by including it in the same offering envelope as your tithe. Your payment must be in a separate envelope. If you don't attend Adventure you can mail your payment directly to Jason at 2726 Brookview Rd Muscatine Iowa 52761

All payments are non-refundable!

Why Sojourn?

If you don’t have time to Sojourn, then you need a Sojourn. If you’re frequently stressed out, you need a Sojourn. If you’re struggling to live out your Christian faith, you need a Sojourn. If you’re feeling lost, angry, stuck, confused, uncertain, guilty, tired, or carrying any significant burden—you need a Sojourn. If you have some huge obstacles in your near future, stop and contact Jason right now, you need a Sojourn!

Practically speaking, even if you’re not feeling any of the issues listed above, at some point in your future you will. Sojourn is designed to give you some practical spiritual discipline tools that will help you leverage life’s difficult moments for your good and God's Glory.

Sojourn is not for everyone

  1. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school.
  2. Also, this Sojourn is for men only (a separate women's Sojourn is scheduled for the Spring of 2019).
  3. Sojourn is not for new believers, it is for those who have been walking with Jesus for a while. One does not need to be a member of Adventure church, but all applicants need at least one reference unless you have been personally invited by Pastor Jason.
